Hope’s Kitchen serves three free lunches per week, feeding approximately 90 to 120 meals per lunch at First UMC. It operates under the

management of one director and 9 to 15 volunteers.  In 2023, Hope’s Kitchen served more than 12,000 meals and is on course to break

those records in 2024.

“Hope’s Kitchen was founded nearly 24 years ago to feed people from all walks of life who struggle to put food on their tables,” said Pat Downey, director of the Kitchen. “With food prices sky rocketing this past year, we are seeing more families and an increase in the number of meals we are serving.”

Lunch Time: The Kitchen begins serving meals at noon on Mon., Wed., and Fri. and closes at 1 p.m. (First UMC collaborates with St. Barnabas Episcopal Parish which serves meals Tues., Thurs. and Sat.)

“I help serve the food we prepare and chat with people so I can learn everyone’s name. That’s my way of treating our guests with dignity. There are a variety of people who show up at our door – families, street people and those struggling to make ends meet. One reason I love volunteering at Hope’s Kitchen is at the end of the day, it just makes me feel good to have helped someone else.”

― Marsha Siglin, volunteer since 2010
